Unbeaten Montrose High School basketball finishes job at Durango

Big fourth quarter from Cheezum carries road team

The Demons were within four points of rival Montrose on Friday. But a strong offensive fourth quarter from the visiting team sent the Durango High School boys basketball team to a loss.

Montrose (9-0, 4-0 5A/4A Southwestern League) outscored the Demons 16-12 in the fourth quarter to take a 50-42 win.

Fletcher Cheezum made two 3-pointers and scored eight points for Montrose in the fourth quarter. He finished with 10 points. Luke Hutto and Ashden Oberg each scored four in the fourth quarter to help put Durango away. Hutto finished with 12 points, and Oberg had eight.

Anthony Flint led Durango with a game-high 16 points. He made four 3-pointers in the game. Walter Stauffer added 13 points for the Demons.

DHS (4-4, 1-2 SWL) will look to get back to .500 in league play when it will host Grand Junction Central (3-4, 1-2 SWL) at 2 p.m. Saturday.
