I am writing to express my support for Barbara McLachlan to become our next state representative.
She taught both my children and supervised them when they wrote and edited for the Durango High School newspaper, El Diablo. They and many of their peers benefited from McLachlan’s role model to work hard, have high personal standards, develop critical thinking skills and apply them to their writing, become an intrinsically motivated learner and continue to be curious about the world.
The key question to consider as voters is whether McLachlan’s teaching skills and mindset are transferable to the new position she seeks; does her experience and skill set position her to be an effective representative in Denver for our district? I would answer emphatically yes!
She practices what she preached as a teacher. She is curious, knows how to address complex topics by learning as much as she can about the issues and applying her critical thinking skills to understand, define and solve problems. She is polite, assertive, has very high standards and is approachable. She listens well. She grasps the complexity of many of the problems that we need to address and wants to mobilize all of us to work together.
Please support Barbara McLachlan by voting for her to become our next state representative; she has what it takes and will work for all of us in Southwest Colorado.
