Wilder outdoors mascot to make appearances during Snowdown 2020

Wilder, a mascot for Great Outdoors Colorado, will visit Durango this year during Snowdown.

As if Snowdown wasn’t wild enough, organizers of the five-day winter celebration announced that Wilder, a part-yeti, part-goat and all mascot for Great Outdoors Colorado, will make appearances at family-friendly events, such as the Light Parade on Jan. 31 and the kids’ Snow Games on Feb. 1 in Durango.

GOCO introduced Wilder to the world as part of its most recent phase of its Generation Wild marketing campaign. Wilder invites people young and old to reconnect with nature and to be more active, creative and self-reliant, GOCO says. Wilder also serves as a reminder that playing outside can be as fun as or more fun than sitting in front of a screen.

During planning of the Generation Wild campaign, Durangoan Jack Turner served as the location scout, bringing a film crew to the Durango area to shoot public service announcements. Many of the images and videos used in the campaign were shot in La Plata County. Filming locations included Dalla Mountain Park, Junction Creek, Falls Creek and Haviland Lake.

We’ll have to see how Wilder embraces this year’s Snowdown theme: A Rockin’ Snowdown.
