The Ignacio High School boys and girls basketball teams received a No. 1 seed in the Class 2A Colorado High School Activities Association District 3 Tournament.
The Ignacio boys (16-2) are on a seven-game winning streak heading into postseason play.
Ignacio will begin tournament play at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and will await the winner between No. 4 Ridgway (10-9) and No. 5 Dolores (4-14), which will be played Tuesday. All games will be played at Montezuma-Cortez High School.
“I’m confident because our kids are playing better than they have been, and as long as we work hard, we should be fine,” Ignacio head coach Chris Valdez said in a phone interview with The Durango Herald.
Ignacio has beaten every team that it will see in the district tournament. Ignacio beat Dolores 64-27 on Jan. 29, took down Mancos 70-44 on Feb. 2, narrowly beat Ridgway 38-37 on Feb. 12 and beat Telluride 65-33 to end the season.
The Bobcats are led by seniors Wyatt Hayes, Anthony Manzanares, Tucker Ward and Nicholas Herrera.
Do-it-all point guard Hayes leads with 14.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 4.4 steals per game.
The Ignacio girls (15-4) will begin tournament play at 4 p.m. on Friday as the No. 1 seed.
The Bobcats will take on the winner between No. 4 Mancos (9-9) and No. 5 Telluride (3-15), which will be played Tuesday.
Sophomore Hilda Garcia leads the Bobcats with 14.7 points per game.
Ignacio has won nine of its last 10 games, with a rare loss coming from Norwood, but have beaten all the teams that are in the district tournament.
