The Bayfield High School Marching Wolverines are proud to present their 2017 marching show, "Cold War, Warm Hearts," at Friday's football game and three competitions in Colorado and New Mexico this month.
The Wolverines travel to Grand Junction and the Colorado Bandmasters Association Western Regional Marching Festival on Thursday, Oct. 19. They will compete against their division 1A rivals Cedaredge and Gunnison.
The following week, they will participate in the University of New Mexico ZIA Marching Fiesta in Albuquerque on Saturday, Oct. 28. They will be home for only for few hours, then hit the road again for Parker for the CBA 1A State Festival.
Bayfield will march in preliminary competition in the early morning of Monday, Oct. 30, and then in finals in the evening. Results will be announced at the end of the evening. The Wolverines will depart for State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29, and there will be a sendoff by family and friends at the Bayfield roundabout on County Road 501.
The Wolverines' marching show consists of marching, choreography, music, dance and acting set to three pieces: the theme to Mission: Impossible, the sultry Cell Block Tango from the musical Chicago, and concludes with the dark and foreboding Skyfall from the 2014 Bond movie of the same name.
As the program starts, two spies, portrayed on field by junior Kira Wennerstrom and senior Collin Jackson, are battling for possession of a briefcase.
For Mission: Impossible, the female spy spends her time plotting and sneaking her way to steal the important item. In Cell Block Tango, she and her male counterpart discover they have "chemistry with a capital C." But her commanding officer, portrayed by Senior Drum Major Savannah Kaufmann disapproves. It all comes to a conclusion during the dark and tragic Skyfall.
