Thank you from National Spirit of ’45

The National Spirit of ’45 and Rosie the Riveter Memorial Rose Garden, Durango, co-chairs Jim and Judy Winzell would like to thank all attendees who came out to support the Rose Garden Dedication on Sept. 14.

Our speakers were outstanding in endorsing the Rose Garden’s raison d’être: John Anderson, president, Durango Botanical Society; Darrin Parmenter, director and horticultural agent, CSU Extension Office; Melissa Youseff, Durango mayor; and Julie Westendorff, chairwoman of the LaPlata County Board of County Commissioners.

The Girl Scouts, our next generation “Rosies,” were all eager to carry on the iconic phrase, “We Can Do It ... Again!” Across the U.S, the Girl Scouts have been an integral part of the Spirit of ’45. After having introduced this campaign to Durango in 2018 at the Veterans Day parade, we are planning for their “March with a WWII Hero on Nov. 11.”

Huge appreciation goes to the Rose Garden team of Master Gardeners who care for these special Floribundas: Sara Carver, Jim Bartasavich, Maddy Marquardt, Al Springer and Jim Lyman.
