Upper Pine Fire to hold COVID-19 testing in Bayfield

Fire department hopes to help alleviate long lines in Durango

The Upper Pine Fire Protection District will hold its latest community COVID-19 testing event Friday in Bayfield.

The fire department is working with San Juan Basin Public Health to offer free COVID-19 tests to anyone. People can visit the Upper Pine district administration building at 515 Sower Drive in Bayfield from 9 a.m. to noon.

Fire Chief Bruce Evans said the department is responding to long wait times for testing in Durango. The department’s emergency call volume has dropped, so first responders are available to help the health department.

“We’re just trying to relieve the pressure by not having everybody drive to Durango,” Evans said.
