If you think a french fry needs a gourmet background to be tasty, think again.
Two local restaurants serve pre-packaged, frozen fries that made the top five on our list of best local french fries.
Steamworks Brewing Co. puts out a super crunchy, truly salty, extra-satisfying french fry and it comes from the food production giant Sysco Corp.
They’re called Brew City Fries, and their secret is in the beer-batter coating. The restaurant also serves Cajun fries with special seasonings so secret that manager Sean Moriarty couldn’t reveal the ingredients. No matter, Steamworks’ hungry customers chow down on about 800 to 1,000 pounds of fries each week.
“We get a lot of people through here, and most of them want french fries,” Moriarty said.
Cosmo Bar & Dining also serves tasty fries – thinly cut Yukon golds fried to a delicate crispness and seasoned well with salt and parsley or truffle oil and Parmesan. They come prepackaged from Shamrock Foods, another major food distribution company.
So don’t judge a book by its cover or a french fry by its package.
