Fort Lewis College lecture series to continue Wednesday

Marietta Eaton, botanist and manager of the Canyons of the Ancients visitor center and museum in Dolores, will give a presentation titled “Alice Eastwood: Pioneer Botanist in the Four Corners” at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.

Eastwood started her career in Denver and moved to the Four Corners during botany expeditions based out of the Wetherill Alamo Ranch in Mancos. She has been curator of botany for more than 50 years for the California Academy of Sciences, served for 15 years as district archaeologist for the North Kaibab Ranger District and was science adviser for the Bureau of Land Management for more than a decade.

Center of Southwest Studies’ summer lecture series, based on the theme “Women in the Southwest,” is free and open to all.
