La Plata County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has been notified that U.S. Postal Service sent out a national pre-election mailer that contains incorrect election information for Colorado.
The mailer incorrectly asks that voters request a mail ballot 15 days before the election and return ballots by mail at least seven days before the election.
Ballots will be mailed automatically to every eligible registered voter Oct. 9. Citizens do not need to make a request.
If returning ballots by mail, voters should deposit their voted ballot in the mail stream no later than eight days before the election, Oct. 26, contrary to what the USPS mailer suggests. However, there are five 24-hour drop boxes that voters can use all the way until 7 p.m. Nov. 3, Election Day.
Citizens are encouraged to verify their voter registration is accurate by visiting www.govotecolorado.gov and return their ballots at one of the five secure 24-hour ballot drop-box locations.
