The Payroll Department has announced this year’s grant recipients for the 12.4.2 Grant are Be Frank Foundation and Sexual Assault Services Organization.
Be Frank was awarded a $12,000 matching grant to support a new music day camp for youth, the Creative Music Conservatory. The Conservatory provides students ages 7-17 a unique orchestral opportunity that explores a variety of repertoire in large ensembles, small group sectionals, individual private lessons and workshops by professional bands. The camp takes place July 29 through August 3 at Fort Lewis College. At the conclusion of the Conservatory, students will perform at the Pine River Festival in Bayfield.
SASO was awarded a $12,000 matching grant to expand outreach services in Ignacio. SASO secured separate funding for a staff cultural outreach coordinator to provide direct services in the local Native American and Southern Ute community. The Payroll Department’s matching grant will provide funds for SASO to open a local office in Ignacio, helping staff to respond faster and more efficiently to victims while eliminating transportation and other barriers to service.
The 12.4.2 grant offers a $12,000 grant to two organizations each year, requiring a 100% match of funds awarded. Both organizations will launch local fundraising efforts immediately and have until October 1, 2019 to raise the matching funds.
This year, the three runner-up organizations from the top five will also receive grants from the Payroll Department. Boys and Girls Club of La Plata County, Durango Adult Education Center, and Pine River Shares each received a $1,000 donation from the Payroll Department.
