Man arrested in connection with false report in South Durango

Durango Police Department officers place a man in custody Wednesday evening on Third Street near East Eighth Avenue. The arrest came after a false report of a fire and shooting in the area.

Durango Police Department officers arrested a man and transported him to Mercy Regional Medical Center on Wednesday after a false report of a home invasion by an armed man in South Durango.

Patrol Cmdr. Rita Warfield said the man, whose name was not released Wednesday night, was “delusional” and “appeared to be under the influence of drugs.”

Police initially responded around 6:10 p.m. to a call in the 300 block of East Seventh Avenue. The East Seventh Avenue address referenced in the report did not actually exist.

Police had received an emergency call that falsely reported a home had been invaded, roommates were possibly shot and the invading party intended to set the house on fire.

The man was taken into custody around 7 p.m. on Third Street near East Eighth Avenue.

Warfield said it is likely Durango police will recommend a charge of false reporting against the man.
