On Thursday morning, Dec. 5, I was traveling northbound on Highway 550/160 approaching the construction zone at the High Bridge.
All the signs tell me to stay in my lane to the merge point, which I did.
I followed the rules.
I stayed in the left lane until it was time to merge to the right, and kept my speed consistent with the traffic to my right.
As I approached the merge point, I signaled to merge right.
There was a small white sedan next to me and I planned to merge in after it.
The gray truck behind the white sedan gave me no room, but I still had a little pavement before I hit the wall.
I figured the car behind the gray truck would be more courteous and give me room to merge since it was a La Plata County Sheriff’s SUV.
I started to move right, but nope.
The Sheriff’s SUV cut me off and I almost hit both the wall and the SUV.
Apparently, the concept of zipper merge does not apply to them.
To the driver of Sheriff’s car 146: I would just like to say thank you for your courtesy.
