Bayfield now has an intrastate contract carrier.
It's similar to a taxi service, but actually offers more flexibility to area residents, said Edward Heard, owner of Bayfield Transportation.
He can take clients out of state, as well as provide Medicaid and insurance client transportation.
Heard worked for two years to get licensing for his business and has been operating for only a month, but said word of mouth is doing well. Farmington and the airport are popular stops, as well as local bars.
He can provide transportation for visitors to the region, having worked for taxi and tour companies, as well as local restaurants in the area. His Yukon Denali also drives well in storms and mud, he added.
