100 years ago: “J.W. Jarvis received a consignment of Studebaker automobiles, six in number, on yesterday’s freight. The lot consisted of one six-cylinder machine, four 25-h.p. machines and one 35-h.p. machine. That six-cylinder affair is a peach, right. The auto ran smoother than a sewing machine, with less than half the noise of one.”
75 years ago: This advertisement appeared in the classified section: “For Sale – Red raspberries, 75 cents a gallon. Copson, Pomona Orchards, Hermosa.”
50 years ago: “A new gondola car – complete with seats and a covering, will be added to the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad’s narrow gauge line between Durango and Silverton. Construction of the car was made necessary by the increase in passengers riding the famed narrow gauge line this summer.”
25 years ago: “When Democrats convene in Atlanta for the Democratic National Convention, only one delegate will represent Southwest Colorado. U.S. Rep. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, D-Ignacio – by virtue of being an elected national official – will attend the convention as a Colorado superdelegate.”
