75 years ago: “Shipments of apples and pears from La Plata County this fall were the largest in many years. 614,295 pounds of apples and 24,715 pounds of pears have been trucked out of the state from this country.”
50 years ago: “A close look at the United States’ cross country ski hopes in the Winter Olympics next year – with generous quotes from Coach Dolph Kuss and photos of Durango’s Mike Elliott termed ‘currently America’s number one cross country runner’ – is given in the November issue of Skiing magazine.”

The La Plata County Commissioners awarded the seniors $3,000 for 1989, but the seniors are willing to live with their current $2,000 level of funding and let the commissioners give $1,000 to the Safehouse.”
