Residents are invited to a community meeting to learn and ask questions about a proposal from fire experts for mitigating wildfire risk in Durango from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
Fire Adapted Durango, a partnership between the City of Durango Parks and Recreation Department and fire experts, has been working to determine the safest and most effective methods for protecting the community from wildland fire.
The group has developed a proposal for mitigating wildfire risk within the Durango Wildland Urban Interface Zone — areas where man-made improvements are built close to, or within, natural terrain and flammable vegetation. Experts with Colorado State Forest Service, BLM, Durango Fire Protection District and other agencies will be available to answer residents’ questions about different aspects of the proposal.
