100 years ago: “That at least a few new suits will be displayed in the Easter parade is assured by the report from Stein’s store that 70 suits had been sold in the special Easter sale of men’s suits which closed last night. Easter trade at the Stein store was good, much heavier than for the same period a year ago.”
75 years ago: “John Wright, alias Rev. William McKay, alias George Davis, alias Rev. J.C. Harvey, alias Fred J. Lenders, who is wanted in Durango for forgery was arrested in Joplin Mo. and sentenced to the Missouri State Prison to serve a four-year term for forgery. Weight, using the alias Rev. William McKay passed checks totaling $40 in Durango.”
50 years ago: “Johan Horn, operator for the Plaza Beauty Salon, has been awarded the trophy for outstanding ability in the field of hair tinting, bleaching and hair styling from the Hobbs Beauty Academy in Greeley.”
25 years ago: “The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Engine No. 476 departed from the Durango Depot for a trial run to the Cascade Canyon Wye. It’s the first engine to be put to the test since a Feb. 10 fire destroyed the D&SNG’s historic roundhouse and damaged all six locomotives inside. An estimated 50-75 people turned out to watch the test run. Officials reported no mechanical malfunctions.”
