The coronavirus is presently taking most of our attention. Many people are struggling emotionally and financially and voting for the LPEA board seems to be an unneeded distraction. Yet, while the virus will impact our lives for a while, life and planning for a viable future does not stop.
Please vote in the upcoming election for the LPEA board of directors for Doug Fults in District 2, Rachel Landis in District 3 and Guinn Unger in District 4. All three will continue the extensive work our LPEA board has been doing to serve our community.
Due to 30 years remaining on our contract with Tri-State, our electricity provider, we are forced to purchase 95% of electricity from them despite that they are not a competitive supplier. Doing the board’s due diligence, it determined that between $10 to $20 million a year could be saved if LPEA would be free to purchase electricity on the market or hundreds of millions saved over the remaining 30 years of our contract with Tri-State.
In addition, LPEA is investigating the possibility of generating solar energy locally, which would be less expensive than Tri-State’s rates. Also in addition, local energy generation creates local jobs and increases our communities economic and energy resiliency.
Please vote for Doug Fults, Rachel Landis and Guinn Unger.
