Fort Lewis track and field records broken at first meet

Alaimo, Brandon, Fagan now in school record books

ALAMOSA – The Fort Lewis College indoor track and field team started the season in record-breaking form at Saturday’s Early Grizzly Open at Adams State University.

The team placed fourth out of five teams, but Emma Alaimo, Sydni Brandon and Victoria Fagan kicked the year off right for the Skyhawks by etching their names in the school record books.

Brandon’s 60-meter dash preliminary time of 8.04 seconds beat the previous time of 8.11 set by Quinlyn Borneo. She finished seventh on the finals with a 8.05 time, and took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.11 meters.

Brandon’s effort was just shy of Alaimo’s 5.13 meter mark that set another record for Fort Lewis.

Alaimo shattered the previous record of 4.91 meters, which was set by Bridgett Gantt last season.

Fagan tied Gabrielle Silva’s school record of 9.68 meters in the shot put and led the three FLC competitors with a ninth-place finish. She also finished ninth with a mark of 7.07 meters in the weight throw.

Borneo (1:04.05) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash and Payton Kee was second in the triple jump after a 9.75 meter leap. Kee was also ninth in the long jump with a 4.72 meter effort.

Fort Lewis won’t compete again until after the holiday break as the Skyhawks are scheduled for a Jan. 20-21 meet at the Air Force Academy Invite in Colorado Springs.
