Purgatory Resort announces Locals Benefit Days

Purgatory Resort on Wednesday announced four Locals Benefit Days this season. Local Benefit Days will include discounted lift tickets and a portion of ticket sales to benefit four nonprofits.

The first benefit day occurs Sunday, with subsequent days on Jan. 8, Feb. 12 and March 5. Discounted lift tickets are available Sunday with a coupon from The Telegraph for $45 adults (18-64); $32 teens (ages 13-17); $25 kids (6-12 years); $32 seniors (65-79); and $25 super seniors (80+); kids 5 and younger are free.

This season’s beneficiaries are the Tri-County Head Start, Durango Food Bank, Friends of the San Juans, and the Southwest Center for Independence.

Every year, Purgatory Resort seeks applications from nonprofit groups that need money for specific programs intended to assist the community.

“Purgatory received applications from 30 fantastic organizations this year, all of which conduct great work for our community,” Matthew Krichman, events manager at Purgatory Resort, said in a news release. “While it was a tough decision for our Benefit Day Committee, these four organizations really stood out.”

Projects to be completed by this year’s four recipients include:

Friends of the San Juans will conduct free avalanche safety and awareness presentations for the community, and provide scholarships for wilderness first responders.Tri-County Head Start is renovating the kitchen at the largest Head Start center in Durango.Southwest Center for Independence will use the money to support programs for youth with disabilities and their families.The Durango Food Bank will use Locals Benefit Days funds to assist with operating expenses. The Food Bank provides 450,000 meals annually to struggling community members.Locals Day tickets are can be bought on Purgatory’s website. Skiers and riders who purchase tickets online and don’t have a coupon must purchase them at least 48 hours in advance.
