4-H livestock team selling pies, fruit

The La Plata County 4-H livestock judging team is selling homemade apple pies, apples, cider, and citrus fruit. Pies cost $13, cider is $9 a gallon, and fruit prices range from $13 for 10 pounds of Rome apples to $26 for a case of grapefruit. The apples and cidar are from Cedaredge, Colo., and the citrus is from the California Sunkist cooperative.

Orders and payment are due Friday, Nov. 28. Order forms can be obtained by emailing steerjunkie@live.com or calling Beth LaShell at 759-1387. Orders can be picked up from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15 at the fairgrounds exhibit hall in Durango.

Old bicycles needed for Christmas project

Volunteers at Calvary Presbyterian Church are fixing up old bicycles again this year for distribution at Christmas.

Bicycles are being accepted at the rear of the church, located at the corner of Mill and Church Streets, in downtown Bayfield.

Of particular need this year are small bicycles, particularly for boys.

Donations also are needed for new parts and can be sent to Calvary Presbyterian Church, PO Box 336 in Bayfield. Bicycle project should be noted in the memo area.

Vendor space available for craft fair

Frosty's Holiday Craft Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at the old BMS gym on South Street in downtown Bayfield. The event includes door prizes, food sales, an ugly sweater contest at noon, rummage sale, silent auction, and Frosty's birthday party at 1 p.m. To reserve vendor space, call (970) 335-8206. Proceeds benefit La Plata County Youth Performing Arts.

Christmas tree permits on sale

Christmas tree permits for National Forest and Bureau of Land Management lands are now on sale at federal lands offices and some stores in southwestern Colorado. A permit is $8 for one tree up to 20 feet tall for personal use. Permits come with a brochure explaining regulations and helpful tips. National Forest/BLM offices also sell maps and offer tips on tree harvesting. Offices in Bayfield, Dolores, Durango and Pagosa Springs will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through the holidays. Permits are on sale at:

Even if Forest Service roads are open, they can be icy and snowy in winter. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended.

Durango Baptist hosting sermon series

Frontier Baptist Church in Durango is hosting guest speakers next week on the topic "Meeting God on a Mountain." 'Night in Bethlehem' set for Dec. 7

"A Night in Bethlehem" will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at Calvary Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Dec. 7. Families will step back in time to biblical Bethlehem. Visitors can interact with shopkeepers and enjoy trips to the Bethlehem Bakery, fisher's pier, spice shop, toy shop, census taker's office, wool trader, potter's shop, and seeing animals at the nativity scene.
