The Ignacio High School girls soccer team saw improvements Tuesday afternoon against Pagosa Springs, but the Pirates proved to be too powerful in a 9-0 win.
“We had some good stuff offensively,” Ignacio head coach Oscar Cosio said. “We had about three or four shots on goal. I saw some positives on the offensive end.”
Pagosa Springs (6-2, 6-1 3A Region 5 League) received five goals from Alma Sigurdson, who is a foreign exchange student from Sweden.
Olivia Reinhardt scored in the 23rd minute for the Pirates, while Morgan Thompson scored in the 51st minute and Addie Thompson scored in the 77th. In the 29th minute, the Bobcats scored on their own goal.
Ignacio (0-6, 0-6) had some players playing new positions because of numerous injuries that have mounted this season. Cosio only had a few substitutes to work with, and he did what he could to put out a team that could compete.
Gibran Silva had 18 saves at goalkeeper in only her third game playing between the posts.
“I think she’s doing great,” Cosio said. “She’s an athlete and has been our MVP. The scoreboard doesn’t show it, but it takes a lot for someone to get between those bars. I’m really proud of her play.”
Next up for Ignacio is a home match at 4 p.m. Friday against Ridgway.
