Santa Clara Pueblo painters focus of talk at Center of Southwest Studies

The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College will present “Three Generations of Santa Clara Pueblo Painters: Pablita, Helen and Maragrete” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 15.

Center director Shelby Tisdale will give the talk in the Lyceum Room. She will hold a meet-and-greet before from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

Pablita Velarde of Santa Clara Pueblo is the matriarch of a family of women painters spanning three generations. Both her daughter, Helen Hardin, and her granddaughter, Margarete Bagshaw, became famous artists, creating their own style and color palette.
