Walker graduates from Baylor
WACO, Texas - Baylor University conferred degrees on more than 2,300 graduates during spring commencement exercises May 16-17.
Katherine Walker of Bayfield received her bachelor of arts degree in French.
Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas through the efforts of Baptist pioneers, Baylor offers 144 undergraduate, 77 master, 32 doctoral degree programs, and two education specialist programs. Baylor's 735-acre campus in Waco is home to more than 15,000 students from all 50 states and 80 countries.
Vaughn receives University of Arkansas scholarships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Adel Vaughn from Bayfield received the Presidential Scholarship, the Verna C. Garvan International Travel Scholarship, the Verna C. Garvan Plant Identification and Planting Design Scholarship and the Maurice Jennings International Experience Endowed Scholarship during the annual Fay Jones School of Architecture Honors Recognition reception and ceremony at the University of Arkansas.
Vaughn is a third-year landscape architecture major at the University of Arkansas. She is the daughter of Patrick and Maria Vaughn of Bayfield.
Lasater named to Farm Bureau Leadership Academy
CENTENNIAL -Â Colorado Farm Bureau is pleased to announce the six members of its 2014 Elite Leadership Academy Class. The Elite Leadership Academy is designed to provide more specific and intensive skills training to Farm Bureau members who have exhibited notably high leadership potential through their involvement in Farm Bureau, community, and agriculture endeavors.
Members of the Elite Leadership Academy class will go through six intensive training sessions. Each session includes a networking dinner, principal and application studies, intensive case studies and think tank-type discussion with an educator to teach students how to see issues from all sides. The Elite Leadership Academy aims to provide class members with the tools necessary to be powerful advocates for the agricultural industry, develop stronger critical thinking skills and improve their communication skills to be proactive in addressing issues.
The class includes Veronica Lasater of Bayfield. Lasaster and her husband, Jesse, raise sheep and grow alfalfa hay.
Colorado Farm Bureau is the state's largest grassroots organization with over 24,000 members. Colorado Farm Bureau seeks to promote and protect the future of agriculture and rural values.
BHS student attends leadership institute
HOUGHTON, MICH. - Molly Caldwell of Bayfield High School attended the recent Women's Leadership Institute at Michigan Technological University.
Molly is the daughter of Michele Sensing of Bayfield.
For completing the program, students are awarded a one-time $1,000 scholarship to be applied to their first fall semester at Michigan Tech following their high school graduation.
The Women's Leadership Institute allows female high school students to prepare for success while discovering and developing traits to help them grow as leaders. Through interactive programming, participants learn about leadership styles and team dynamics, and develop team-building skills through group projects and activities. Current Michigan Tech students serve as student mentors during the day-and-a-half long program.
