Professionally crafted and homemade signs thanking firefighters have popped up throughout Durango and La Plata County since the 416 Fire began on June 1.
To say a big thank you and to show off artwork being crafted, The Durango Herald asked readers to submit some of their endeavors, with a chance to run on the top of the Herald’s front page via our “Thank you, firefighters” art contest.
Thank you to everyone who entered. We received a large number of entries, and after the contest closed on June 29, a newsroom committee had a very difficult time selecting the top winners.
Winning entries are:
Laurie Cullum (Weekend edition, July 7-8)
“Fire Line” by Richard Locke (Monday, July 9)
Rachel Heberle (Wednesday, July 11)
Trinity Crane, 12 (Friday, July 13)
“Thank you fire and EMS” by Sarah Lawson (Weekend edition, July 14-15)
