100 years ago: Gus Olbert, a farmer of the Thompson’s Park section, returned home after a business trip. He planned to have his son look after his ranch interests when the crops had been harvested while he moved into town to “take life easy.”
75 years ago: It was predicted that residents would buy fewer sweets as a result of a WPB honey order.
50 years ago: Two Fort Lewis College students were hospitalized after a car wreck 40 miles west of Pagosa Springs. They suffered lacerations of the head, face and hands after their 1966 Ford Ranchero careened off the road, became airborne and struck a dirt bank at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was “estimated to be a total loss.”
25 years ago: A resident who lived on Rio Vista Circle arrived home to find a man standing in his bedroom. He chased him out of the house and called the police. Officers later took into custody a 38-year-old man who claimed, “he thought he was in a church to pray and find shelter.”
