Lions Club holding pancake breakfast
The Bayfield Lions Club will hold its annual Fourth of July breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4. Pancakes, sausage, and eggs will be served for $7 for adults and $3 for children. The club is also raffling $800 cash, and $200 for second place. Tickets are $5 each, or three for $10, and will be available during the breakfast, or they can be purchased in advance from any club member. The prize drawings will be at the conclusion of the breakfast.
Commissioner to host public meeting
County Commissioner Gwen Lachelt will hold her monthly meet the public session on Monday, June 15, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Animas Room of the Fairgrounds Extension Building in Durango. County residents are invited to come with questions, comments, or concerns about county issues. For information call 382-6219.
Stroller workout, picnic offered

Authors coming to Ignacio library
Local authors Katrina Blair, Chuck Greaves and Andrew Gulliford will attend an evening of readings and questions and answers at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Ignacio Community Library.
These three authors are among the finalists for the Colorado Book Awards, presented by Colorado Humanities. The Colorado Book Awards is an annual program that celebrates the accomplishments of Colorado's outstanding authors, editors, illustrators and photographers. The awards announcement will take place June 21 in Aspen. The library is hosting the reading in collaboration with the Cortez and Telluride public libraries.
Ute stories coming to Bayfield library
Southern Ute elder Russell Box, Sr. will present "Ute Heroes: Stories From the Southern Ute Tribe" on Wednesday, June 24, at the Pine River Library in Bayfield. His program starts at 7:30 p.m.
Participants are invited to hear about heroes of the tribe, while sitting around the library's outdoor fire pit. The program is free and open to all ages. For more information about "Ute Heroes," contact the library at 884-2222, ext.522.
Independence Day parade returning to Arboles
After a hiatus, the Arboles Independence Day parade is returning.
This year's parade is at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 2. Lineup starts at 3 p.m. on Willard Way, behind the Piedra Peak Cafe. The parade will proceed north on CR 982 toward the marina, then north on Milton Lane.

Church holding Bible Time
Pine River Valley Baptist Church will host Neighborhood Bible Time next week from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 15-19. The program is for ages 3 to 5 and first through sixth grades. There will be Bible stories, missionary stories, ribbons, competitions, food and lots of fun.
In Teens will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. June 13-18 for 7th to 12th grade students. There are games, competitions, Bible stories and dinner each night. Saturday, June 13, is kickoff night with bowling. Wednesday is water night and Thursday night is Destination Unknown. Bring your friends and have a great time. For more information, call 884-9481. Ignacio Fiesta raffle tickets, booths available
San Ignacio Fiesta will be celebrated on July 25-26 in Ignacio. The annual raffle tickets are now available from this year's queen candidates, Reyna Cruz, Lainey Espinosa and Chrystianne Valdez. Summer movies start Saturday
The Pine River Library is hosting several outdoor movies this summer starting June 13.
The program was popular last year, with dozens of community members watching a variety of films on the library's outdoor movie screen.
This year's program will feature a special Flag Day ceremony at the kickoff event.
"Our library flag is due to retire, so members of the Bayfield American Legion will take down the old flag, properly dispose of it, and raise a new flag," said Librarian Karen Lemke. "The ceremony is a great way for community members to show their respect to the American flag and learn more about proper flag etiquette and traditions."
The flag ceremony will start at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by a screening of "Sponge Bob: Out of Water." The movie will start at dusk.
Free popcorn is provided, and the Friends of the Library will sell other snacks and drinks.
Three other outdoor movie nights are planned this summer. On Saturday, June 27, the library will show "Goonies," and the movie "Ghostbusters" will air on Saturday, July 11. Heartwood hosting potluck
The Heartwood Cohousing Community near Bayfield will host a potluck and a presentation about the community at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 19. All are welcome. Please bring a dish to share. Heartwood is off County Road 506. More information is on the Heartwood Cohousing facebook page.
