100 years ago: “Two-thousand five pounds of the usual high grade butter was manufactured at the San Juan Creamery during the week. In order to meet the demand it was necessary to churn one day ahead of the usual schedule.”
75 years ago: “At a meeting at Pagosa Springs the Upper Piedra Stockgrowers’ Association voted to continue the practice of employing two riders to take care of the cattle ranged by association members on the Upper Piedra. This year 1,600 head of cattle were grazed on the Piedra ranges.”
50 years ago: “Most happy people in southwest Colorado today are members of the U.S. Forest Service, after rainfall which measured more than an inch fell throughout the tinder-dry forests Saturday. Hunters, too, although they’re apt to get soaked in their camps and when stalking game, welcomed the rainfall which brought intermittent snow flurries, helping to drive game from the high country into more accessible areas.”
25 years ago: “The Durango Planning Commission will review a new proposal for a Wendy’s fast-food restaurant in the 1800 block of Main Avenue. Plans call for a 2,300-square-foot building with a drive-through window on the site, which now has four houses and two garages. It is zoned for commercial uses.”
