A different kind of osprey was seen in the skies of La Plata County during the weekend with two Marine Corps Air MV 22 Ospreys flying around. The planes landed at the Durango/La Plata County Airport on Saturday on their way back from Amarillo, Texas, during a training mission. The crews practiced high-altitude flying and landing in the area before heading back Sunday to their home base in Miramar Calif., Col. Patrick Gramuglia said. The aircraft’s tilt rotors enable it to take off and land like a helicopter and fly like a traditional airplane.
