U.S. Highway 550 closed briefly Thursday afternoon between Honeyville and the intersection with East Animas Road (County Road 250) for mudslides triggered by heavy rains on the 416 Fire burn scar north of Durango.
Megan Graham, La Plata County spokeswoman, announced the closure at 3:20 p.m. The highway was reopened at 3:50 p.m.
Rains began falling Thursday afternoon, and not too long after, reports of flooding started coming into authorities.
Graham said mudslides and debris flow were concentrated in the Pine Acres subdivision area, where previous rain storms caused flooding over the last several weeks.
Other county roads in the area, including 250, 203 and 201 were not affected by Thursday’s mudslides.
