Colorado man who murdered his parents, brother gets parole

LONGMONT – A Colorado man who murdered his mother, father and brother as a teenager in 1986 has been released on parole.

Larry Long, 53, was released from prison Jan. 5 after serving more than 35 years of his 48-year sentence on three counts of second-degree murder, Colorado Department of Corrections spokeswoman Annie Skinner said.

Long had been eligible for parole since 1999 and had been denied, Skinner said.

“It is the role of the Colorado Department of Corrections Parole Board to consider community safety when making their decision to release an inmate,” Deputy Chief of the Longmont Public Safety Department Jeff Satur said in a statement. “We remain hopeful that when incarcerated individuals are released that they are provided with the appropriate support, supervision and guidance necessary to succeed in their transition to the community.”

Police said Long, who was 18 when the killings occurred, stabbed his brother, Ronald “Randy” Long, 16; his mother, Carol, 39, and his father, Larry Long Sr., 41, to death, the Daily Times-Call reported.
