Thank you to Sadie Wendt for her one-woman attempt to enforce the mask order and her courage in demanding men, too, must wear masks (“
Perhaps she let her anger get the best of her but there seems to be a disturbing pattern in our community, as the story about her appeared beside another incident involving a belligerent male, ripping mask off a woman who was walking along Main Avenue. In Wendt’s case, the manager admits she was met with a male using Officer Chauvin-type maneuvers because she was ”running her mouth.”
The governor issued a statewide face mask order with some exceptions. Being male is not an exception. The misinterpretation of the Constitution and their rights by some is tiring and wrong.
The U.S. Supreme Court recently said emergency health orders take precedence over some rights. The Court did not except men from their rulings.
Businesses such as O’Reilly Auto Parts should be cited for open defiance of the face mask order. The City Council must demand the Durango Police Department enforce the mask order. But if not, it’s 2020 and women have the power of the purse. Just add O’Reilly to the list of irresponsible businesses in town.
