The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society will present “Ancient Pompeii – Archaeological Features of Water Systems” by Wayne Lorenz at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College. A social will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Lorenz will discuss archaeological features of the water systems that the ancient Romans built to serve Pompeii and the communities around Naples Bay, Italy. One of the largest aqueduct systems in the Roman Empire was constructed in the first century B.C. to serve these communities.
Lorenz, chief Engineer of Wright Water Engineers Inc. and director of Roman Aqueduct Studies for the Wright Paleohydrological Institute, has supervised six field research visits to Pompeii. He has published the results of his Roman water engineering research in numerous journals.
