Letters: Re-elect Guinn Unger to the LPEA board

I am selfishly writing to urge all District 4 residents to vote for Guinn Unger for the LPEA board.

All of us LPEA members have been incredibly lucky to have someone of Guinn’s intelligence and experience on the board these past three years. I have found Guinn to be highly knowledgeable, energetic and effective.

Guinn is willing and able to dig into complex problems to find solutions. He has the training and experience (he worked on the space shuttle as an electrical engineer) to understand the details involved in electricity generation and distribution.

He also has the experience in business to grapple with the economic issues involved in moving Durango toward greener energy solutions. It was Guinn’s idea to form committees to study the price of a possible exit from our current contract and likely alternative costs and options on the energy open market.

Thanks to his insistent and even-handed determination, those specific committees met through much of 2018 and early 2019, and contracted with independent consulting firms to deliver assessments in April of 2019. Based on that figure, the board will decide whether to go forward toward a cheaper, fixed rate open market contract.

Guinn is committed to serving this community and I deeply trust his integrity to serve us well.

Please re-elect Guinn Unger to the LPEA board.
