Bayfield School District and the Town of Bayfield have started constructing the roundabout intersection project at the intersections of Lakeside, Mountain View and East Oak drives.
Traffic signs went up Tuesday morning, and there have been lots of u-turns around Bayfield as drivers are reminded about the closure.
The intersection is expected to be closed through August.
The project will replace an inferior intersection and be ready for increased traffic when the new Bayfield Intermediate School opens on East Oak Drive.
Along with a new roundabout intersection, work will include utilities; widening of East Oak Drive; insertion of turn lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalks; a crosswalk and bike lanes.
The following detours are in place:
Lakeside and Westview drives will have local access via a temporary roadway connecting to Wolverine Drive, near Mudshaver Car Wash and the Bayfield Business Center.East Oak traffic will be detoured onto North Cedar Drive, East Cedar Drive and Sossaman Road to CR 501.Mountain View Drive will be open to local residential traffic only north and south of the intersection. Drivers need to go to Bayfield Center Drive on the south and Sossaman Drive on the north.
