Meltdown on the Mesa is this weekend

Meltdown on the Mesa, a fundraiser for the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, will be held Saturday at Ewing Mesa.

A full day of music and camping is planned for Saturday out on Ewing Mesa.

The Meltdown on the Mesa is packed this year with local and regional bands, and the event is for a cause.

Money brought in from ticket sales will go back into the annual Bluegrass Meltdown, said Tommy Frederico, president of Durango Bluegrass Meltdown.

Bands playing this year include FY5, a band from Fort Collins, which will be the day’s closing act.

Other bands taking the stage this weekend include Six Dollar String Band, Lawn Chair Kings, Sunny and the Whiskey Machine, Lost Souls, The Robin Davis Duo and Last Nickel.

And when FY5’s last note has been played, it’s time for a little picking and camping. If you are planning on spending the night, camping is in cars or tents only.

“There’s plenty of room for everybody,” Frederico said. “After the first year, we doubled the amount of tickets that we’re allowed to sell.”

Admission is $25, which includes your parking and camping. Kids 12 and younger get in free, so bring the fam.

“It’s a good family-friendly festival,” Frederico said.

A while your money gets you a day of music and a night under the stars, it’s also helps to keep a longtime festival rolling.

“It’s a good community homegrown kind of festival supporting the Durango Meltdown,” Frederico said. “It helps us raise a little cash for the April festival. It’s close to town, you can camp, tickets are super-cheap – which includes camping – and the setting is pretty spectacular.”
