Fort Lewis cross country pulls two thirds in face of Adams State perfection

Adams State amazes at home meet; FLC places 3rd

Adams State University ran a perfect cross country meet Saturday at its home Joe Vigil Open.

The Grizzlies swept the top-five spots in both the men’s and women’s races to win with perfect team scores of 15.

Adams State is ranked No. 1 on the men’s side and No. 3 on the women’s.

Jackson Sayler won the men’s 10-kilometer race in 25 minutes, 7.39 seconds, while Jenna Thurman took first in the women’s 8K in 17:46.62.

Despite the Grizzlies’ blistering pace, Fort Lewis College performed well in its first meet of the season.

The Skyhawks took third in both the men’s and women’s meets, finishing with 93 points on the men’s side and 80 on the women’s.

Emily Bryant, a sophomore from Pagosa Springs, turned in FLC’s best performance of the day in 12th place in the women’s race at 19:18.77.

Victoria Quintana was close behind her in 14th at 19:28.53.

Carly Wilborn took 17th in 19:40.62, Erin Renner was 18th in 19:45.74 and Chloe Boehlke finished 19th in 19:47.4.

Rebecaa Bramley and Kiara Glover didn’t score for the Skyhawks, but they finished 19th and 20th in 19:48.51 and 19:55.28, respectively.

William Scoggins paced FLC’s men’s team in 14th in 27:32.4.

Tate Lagasca finished 16th in 27:41.81; Sylas Schutt took 18th in 28:00.8; Ryan Mott was 20th in 28:11.12; and Alexander Pekoff rounded out FLC’s scoring in 25th in 28:51.8.

Luke Spitz was 17th in 27:43.34, and Sean Fitzgerald finished 19th in 28:08.05.

The Skyhawks’ next meet will be the Missouri Southern State University Southern Stampede on Sept. 19 in Joplin, Missouri, the site of the national championship race.

FLC also will send some of its runners to Colorado Springs for the Colorado College Invitational.
