Power restored to 400 people in lower Animas Valley

Recent flooding conditions made restoration efforts difficult

As of 2 p.m. Saturday, power was restored after a downed electrical line in the lower Animas Valley north of Durango caused a power outage that affected 398 people.

The downed line was located on the east side of the Animas River adjacent to County Road 250, according to a news release from La Plata Electric Association.

Muddy conditions caused by Tuesday’s flash floods made it difficult to move large equipment in the area of the downed line. The outage, however, does not appear to be associated with the recent flooding.

LPEA received an alert at 9:21 a.m. Saturday that there was an issue with the line. The initial problem affected 533 people. An operations team was able to switch circuits and resume power for 135 people about an hour later.
