Check your voter registration status now

In July, a request was made to each state’s secretary of state by the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity to provide publicly available voter data – including names, addresses, party affiliations and birth years.

This submission from Colorado was delayed because of court challenges, but eventually was made to the commission on Aug. 1.

In the time between the request and submission, many Colorado voters chose either to withdraw their registration or to request that their information be made confidential.

Confidential voters, including 83 La Plata County voters, will receive ballots (also for primaries) and can vote as they would normally, but they will not be on the list for their party’s caucus.

Upon request by the voter, the political party will need to call the office of the La Plata County Clerk to verify party affiliation.

If you have canceled your registration – since July 1, 65 voters in the county have either because of the data request or moving – you must re-register in order to vote in upcoming elections this November, for the fire department ballot measure and local school boards. This can be done govotecolorado.com or with the County Clerk and Recorder’s office at 98 Everett Street, Suite C, in Bodo Industrial Park.

Another opportunity is on National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, when the League of Women Voters of La Plata County, in partnership with the libraries, will be providing online assistance to eligible voters at the Pine River, Ignacio and Durango Public libraries from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Voters will be assisted with first time registration, checking their registration or to change information on an existing registration.

Exercise your right. Register and vote.
