DHS musicians win state recognition

Durango High School students Nolan Reed, Nick Wilbur and Reiley Waldo qualified for Colorado All State Orchestra, which took place last weekend. The event recognized students as the top orchestra musicians in the state. Reed plays violin, Wilber plays viola and Waldo plays percussions.

Three Durango High School student musicians, selected on past performances, participated with young musicians from around Colorado in an All State Orchestra gathering over the Valentine Day weekend at the Fort Collins campus of Colorado State University.

The DHS musicians are Nolan Reed (violin), Nick Wilbur (viola) and Reiley Waldo (percussions).

They study under Katharine Reed, who established jazz and orchestra ensembles when she arrived at DHS three years ago. Participation in music has increased 75 percent since Reed arrived.
