A 26-year-old La Plata County man faces charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Stephen Andrew Goupil was arrested Friday in the parking lot of the Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio where, authorities say, he was having sex in a vehicle with a 16-year-old girl.
During the investigation of a reported sexual assault, authorities found the girl had a marijuana cigarette that Goupil gave her, La Plata County Sheriff’s spokesman Dan Bender said Tuesday.
Goupil, formerly from Utah, was released on a personal bond, Bender said.
Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is a Class 6 felony offense, the lowest category, Bender said.
The 6th Judicial District Attorney’s office is considering whether to file sexual assault charges against Goupil, which in this case would be a Class 1 misdemeanor because it was a consensual relationship.
The couple have been dating, Bender said.
