No athletes in La Plata County were named to the Colorado High School Activities Association’s all-state volleyball teams in 2018.
With Bayfield, Durango and Ignacio all missing out on state postseason play, coaches around the state didn’t give players enough votes to make the teams.
Here’s a look at this year’s all-conference award winners:
The Demons had three players named to the Class 5A/4A Southwestern League all-league team.
Millie O’Ketter and Taylor Wolf were named first-team honorees, while Charlotte Hale made second-team.
Wolf, a senior middle blocker who signed with Rocky Mountain College last month, had 86 total blocks and 31 aces her senior season. She was second on the team in the kills department, as she had 190, which was an average of 2.4 per set. Wolf’s season-high for kills was 16 against Pagosa Springs in the first game of the season. Her season-high hitting percentage was .500 against Fruita Monument in October.
O’Ketter, a junior outside hitter, led the Demons with 199 kills and had 10 or more kills eight times this season with a match-high of 18 against Grand Junction Central. O’Ketter was also recognized for her academics, as she was named to the Academic All-State First Team. Among outside hitters in 4A, O’Ketter had the ninth most service aces (55), 22nd most digs (247) and was 27th in kills.
Rounding out the list for the Demons was Charlotte Hale, a senior libero and defensive specialist. Hale led the team in serve receptions with 379 and averaged 4.7 per set, while she was second on the team in digs with 210.
The Bayfield volleyball team received end-of-season recognition, as senior setter Tymbree Florian and outside hitter Jannika Pope were named to the Class 3A Intermountain League all-league team. Florian was recognized with first-team honors, while Pope received second-team accolades.
