Looking to get started as a home beekeeper? The Pine River Garden Club will host a talk on the Basics of Beekeeping from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10 at the library. Come learn what to buy and what is necessary (as opposed to what is available) to get started with bees. Attendees will also learn how to help bees thrive and the flowers they love, as well as some of the pitfalls of beekeeping and the importance of keeping away from using pesticides in your garden. This class will be taught by Paula Nelson and Jacqui Day of the Southern Colorado Beekeepers.

Ignacio Community Library will host Legos and Wii gaming at 2 p.m. every Monday in July and Augst.
Come enjoy some summer creativity and fun on Monday afternoons at the library with our assortment of Legos and games on the Wii.
At 2 p.m. on Tuesday July 10, the library will show Wonder, a 2017 movie about the story of August Pullman, a boy born with facial differences, and his extraordinary journey to unite his friends, family, and community.
A special event for the Summer Reading Program will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Michael Casey, a motivational musical performer, will join us as he shares about growing up with the same rare syndrome as the character from the film Wonder.

Colorado Department of Transportation will host a telephone town hall forum at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 9, to give area residents an opportunity to discuss transportation issues.
The forum is open to residents of Alamosa, Archuleta, Chaffee, Conejos, Costilla, Dolores, Hinsdale, La Plata, Mineral, Montezuma, Montrose, Rio Grande, Saguache, San Juan and San Miguel counties. CDOT personnel will provide information and answer questions from residents about transportation needs, projects, funding and other initiatives in South-Central and Southwest Colorado.

World Heritage Student Exchange Programs is looking for American families to host high school students from European, Asian, former Soviet Union, Middle Eastern and African countries.
These academically select exchange students speak English and are eager to learn about the U.S. by living as part of a family for an academic year and attending high school.
Exchange students arrive from their home country shortly before school begins and return at the end of the school year. Each World Heritage student is fully insured, brings his or her own personal spending money and expects to bear his or her share of household responsibilities, as well as being included in normal family activities and lifestyles. At the same time, the student will be teaching their newly adopted host family about their own culture and language.

The drought has caused a hay shortage from lack of irrigation water and, as a result, local providers have limited resources and are forced to sell hay to horse owners at higher costs.
To combat the shortage, two-strand bales of hay are being delivered from northern Colorado, and a Go-Fund-Me account was created June 11 to defray costs. Donations have helped reduce prices, and hay is currently available to horse owners in La Plata County at $12.75 per bale. Hay is a mix of brome, orchard and timothy, and each bale weighs 60 to 70 pounds.
