World Heritage Student Exchange Programs is looking for American families to host high school students from European, Asian, former Soviet Union, Middle Eastern and African countries.
These academically select exchange students speak English and are eager to learn about the U.S. by living as part of a family for an academic year and attending high school.
Exchange students arrive from their home country shortly before school begins and return at the end of the school year. Each World Heritage student is fully insured, brings his or her own personal spending money and expects to bear his or her share of household responsibilities, as well as being included in normal family activities and lifestyles. At the same time, the student will be teaching their newly adopted host family about their own culture and language.
To become a host family or find out more about World Heritage, contact Courtney Wade, at (720)-209-1145 or (866)-939-4111, email at Courtney@World-Heritage.org or visit www.whhosts.com.
The drought has caused a hay shortage from lack of irrigation water and, as a result, local providers have limited resources and are forced to sell hay to horse owners at higher costs.
To combat the shortage, two-strand bales of hay are being delivered from northern Colorado, and a Go-Fund-Me account was created June 11 to defray costs. Donations have helped reduce prices, and hay is currently available to horse owners in La Plata County at $12.75 per bale. Hay is a mix of brome, orchard and timothy, and each bale weighs 60 to 70 pounds.
To make arrangements to purchase hay or to help with distribution, call or email Kathy Sherer at 884-2355 or jksherer@q.com. Horse owners who inquire must be residents of La Plata County and will be placed on a list to receive hay. Those who are most in need of hay will be supplied first.
