Ignacio students heading to state competitions

Ignacio High School isn't just a basketball powerhouse, its students are heading to events for business and history students in the next few months, as well.

Three students from Future Business Leaders of America will attend the state convention and competition April 18-20 in Vail.

The FBLA competition consists of tests of various subjects in business. Brianna Henderson will compete in business law; Armondo Rogarin in personal finance, and Jacob Griffing in computer probability. The FBLA students are advised by Beau Moore.

For Colorado History Day, students started researching a specific topic at the beginning of the school year, then presented it at regional competition at Southwest Colorado Community College in Mancos. The top projects in each region are selected for the state event.

Those heading to state are Brianna Henderson, who researched Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi, while her sister, Amanda, explores different styles of English literature in her project, "War of the Romantics."

Jeffrey Brittain researched the Vienna Congress, while Elco Garcia Jr. explored the role of women in World War II. Garcia is the team's alternate. Mathew Belleau is the other team member for History Day. The state event is on Saturday, May 5 at the University of Colorado-Denver. Sandy Mitchell teaches these students at IHS.
