Letters: Send Sen. Cory Gardner back to Yuma

One of the benefits of having access to Denver stations on our satellite TV is that we finally get to see political ads for Colorado candidates. I am absolutely appalled that Sen. Cory Gardner seems to be running as something he is not – an environmentalist and public lands advocate. With a lifetime score of 11% from the League of Conservation Voters, Gardner is trying to make voters forget his five years of dogged opposition to environmental protection.

One bill – the Great America Outdoors Act – does not make him an environmental champion. He opposed limiting the profligate release of methane. He opposes the bipartisan Colorado wilderness proposal, and the CORE Act. He opposed limiting carbon pollution. He has not supported science-based environmental reviews. And, he has voted with President Trump 89% of the time.

Gardner is not who he would like us to think he is. His voting record and performance in office is completely out of step with what most Coloradans believe and value. I suggest we send him back to Yuma in November.
