San Juan National Forest is coordinating a forest-wide cleanup Saturday for National Public Lands Day.
With increased interest in the outdoors bringing higher visitation, it has also brought more trash. San Juan National Forest partner organizations will remove trash from trailheads, along streams and on high-use trails such as Ice Lakes.
Other National Public Lands Day volunteer efforts include trail work on the new Cutthroat Trail on the Columbine Ranger District and tree planting in the Missionary Ridge burn.
Participating partners and their cleanup efforts can be found on the National Environmental Education Foundation website, www.neefusa.org/npld-event-search. Individuals who would like to perform a dispersed cleanup effort (on their own or with family or friends) are encouraged to do so. Register “virtual” efforts on the Individuals in Action event on the NEEF website.
