After a wet and cold Sunday morning, Durango will likely warm up before the next weather system moves in Tuesday evening.
Monday and Tuesday are predicted to see highs in 50s, following a storm that brought a quarter of an inch of precipitation to the Durango-La Plata County Airport, said Chris Sanders, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.
Bayfield received 4.5 inches of snow and Rockwood received 2.1 inches as of Sunday morning, according to the service.
Thus far this season, Southwest Colorado is leading the state for above-average snowpack with 155 percent of normal in the San Miguel, Dolores, Animas and San Juan watersheds, according to the Natural Resource Conservation Service Colorado.
The next storm is likely to arrive late Tuesday, bringing a chance of rain and snow to the area, and it could linger until early Thursday, he said.
“It’s not a big storm like we have seen in the past couple of months,” he said.
Durango could see some light accumulations of snow Wednesday morning. However, it is unlikely precipitation during the day will stick. The high on Wednesday is predicted to be in the low 50s, according to the weather service.
The higher elevations are likely to see 3 to 6 inches of show in areas above 8,000 feet through Wednesday afternoon, he said.
The NWS is not expecting flooding near the 416 Fire burn scar in the next few days, he said.
“It’s going to take heavy rain to really affect the burn scar,” Sanders said.
