Transit Satellite is open for business on Mill Street, offering sales and installation of HughesNet, Dish TV, DirecTV, and home security and automation services from Vivint Smart Home and Nest.
Owner Jonathan Hale explained that thanks to a new satellite operated by HughesNet, rural customers can now get high-speed Internet that is far faster than satellite services available even a few years ago.
"It can only get better," he said of Hughes' service of 25 megabytes per second for a download speed, and 3 mbps for uploads.
Transit Satellite has three installers who cover Southwest Colorado from Pagosa Springs to Utah. Hale has installed DirecTV systems for seven years and wanted to offer more services to local customers, so he founded Transit and worked out of his home, but needed more space to store equipment, along with a retail location.
Vivint and Nest are different types of home security services, with Vivint customers being able to lower or raise home temperatures and turn on lights, or open the door for deliveries, using their smart phones. The systems have been growing in popularity with area homeowners, Hale said.
