The Bayfield eighth-grade homeschooler has earned a position on the Colorado National Junior High Rodeo team and will journey with her family to Des Moines, Iowa in June for the national competition.

Story will compete in pole bending. She took third in the event at the Colorado state rodeo on May 22-26 in Craig.

Pole bending is a timed event that features a horse and rider running a weaving path around six poles arranged in a line. It's usually seen in high school rodeos and 4-H events.

Story made two pole runs, taking fourth and third, enough to move her into one of the top four places in Colorado, which is the qualification for nationals.

The National Junior High Finals Rodeo draws 1,000 contestants from 42 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia. Story is the daughter of Shannon and Cody Story of Bayield.
